Accountant
Reports to: President
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provides accounting and bookkeeping for the business including recording of all transactions using in-house software tool (Ajera) and other software.
- Inputs specific data into PM spreadsheets (PMS) to assure financial health and accurate reporting for all active construction management projects.
- Prepares periodic financial reports.
- Provides analysis of past, present and future projected financial data.
- Conducts internal audits and financial analyses.
- Supports Treasurer regarding distribution of payroll and bonuses.
- Prepares and issues invoices and tracks invoice payment collections.
- Issue payments via ACH, credit cards or checks.
- Makes transfers between company bank accounts.
- Facilitates transfer of financial data with outsourced accounting and tax organizations.
- Supports Program and Project Managers (PMs) to maintain PMS and to coordinate AR and AP needs with PMs and help resolve problems.
- Supports general administration personnel as needed.
- Assists in preparation of yearly business plan.
- Provides financial information to management by researching and analyzing accounting data; preparing reports.
- Prepares asset, liability, and capital account entries by compiling and analyzing account information.
- Documents financial transactions by entering account information.
- Recommends financial actions by analyzing accounting options.
- Summarizes current financial status by collecting information; preparing balance sheet, profit and loss statements, and other reports.
- Substantiates financial transactions by auditing documents.
- Maintains accounting controls by preparing and recommending policies and procedures.
- Reconciles financial discrepancies by collecting and analyzing account information.
- Secures financial information by completing database backups.
- Maintains financial security by following internal controls.
- Prepares payments by verifying documentation and requesting disbursements.
- Answers accounting procedure questions by researching and interpreting accounting policy and regulations.
- Complies with federal, state, and local financial legal requirements by studying existing and new legislation, enforcing adherence to requirements, and advising management on needed actions.
- Prepares special financial reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing account information and trends.
- Maintains customer confidence and protects operations by keeping financial information confidential.
- Analyzes and prepares work-on-hand and backlog reports.

- Processes new employee I-9 forms.

Education: 4-year degree in finance, accounting or related field.
Experience: Minimum 5 years of experience in a professional accounting position.
Work location: Office, Herndon Virginia.
Other: Will have served as accounting professional in an architectural, engineering or construction business.
