SWSG is proud to announce the completion of the new restroom facility at Laurel Hill’s Central Green, a key feature in the ongoing development of this community space. This project, located within the boundaries of the District of Columbia Correction Facility Historic Overlay and the National Register of Historic Places, showcases our commitment to preserving historical integrity while enhancing modern amenities.

Our architectural-engineering services included schematic drawings, construction drawings, construction administration services, and cost estimates for the planned improvements. The project required approvals from the Fairfax County Architectural Review Board (ARB), the Lorton Heritage Society, the South County Federation, and the Virginia Department of Historic Resources (VDHR), ensuring that all enhancements were in line with historical and community standards.

The restroom facility, part of a broader two-phase development plan at Laurel Hill’s Central Green, includes an ADA-compliant walkway, utilities, and a sanitary line to the pump station at the Lorton Workhouse. With an overall cost of approximately $2.1 million, funded through park projects and infrastructure funds, as well as the General County Construction Fund, this facility is a significant upgrade for the area. The official opening took place on Saturday, June 1, in conjunction with the Park Authority’s National Trails Day event, celebrating 10 years of the Gerry Connolly Cross County Trail.
